Deputy Prime Minister welcomes European Union Commissioner for health

(VNA) - Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem welcomed Markos Kyprianou, EU Commissioner for health and consumer protection on his visit to Viet Nam at a time when the country is taking measures to prevent the spread of bird flu.

Deputy PM Khiem thanked the European Union for its 30 million EUR aid for Asia to prevent bird flu, helping raise Viet Nam's capacity in animal quarantine. Deputy PM Khiem informed Markos Kyprianou of Viet Nam's seafood production process and said he hoped that the EU will help Viet Nam to increase its seafood exports to the EU market.

Markos Kyprianou said that bird flu is now a global threat, therefore good coordination among countries is needed. He affirmed that the EU is ready to send experts to give technical help to Asian countries, including Viet Nam, in this work. He said Viet Nam's open attitude and practical information are a positive sign in the fight against bird flu./.
