Thai Depty PM launds Viet Nam's joining regional economic cooperation group

(VNA) - Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Wissanu Krea-ngam has spoken highly of Viet Nam's participation in the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS).

While he was received by Prime Minister Phan Van Khai in Ha Noi on Nov. 8, the visiting Deputy PM said the participation of Viet Nam - a dynamic economy with an abundant labour force - in the ACMECS will accelerate the development of the grouping.

The Thai deputy PM told PM Khai that his country has rehabilitated the Thailand-Viet Nam Friendship Village in Nakhon Phanom province and that it has planned to build similar villages in other localities.

Regarding bilateral trade ties, he said that in the future Thai businesses will import more aquatic products from Viet Nam.

During the meeting, the host and the guest discussed preparations for the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Viet Nam-Thailand diplomatic ties (August 6, 1976-2006) and for the second joint cabinet meeting slated for February 2006 in Thailand.

PM Khai said the two countries should celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties with the aim of bettering mutual understanding between the two peoples and boosting bilateral ties.

He stressed the necessity to boost trade and investment cooperation between the two sides, saying that during the joint cabinet meeting next year, Viet Nam and Thailand should seek measures to create breakthroughs in their relations in the economic-trade and investment areas.

The Vietnamese Government leader said he hoped that Thailand, which plays an important role in investment and human resources training in the region, would provide more scholarships for Vietnamese students to study in the country.

In the morning of the same day, the Thai deputy PM and his entourage laid wreaths at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and visited the President's working and living place. They also called on the Ho Chi Minh Museum, the Ethnology Museum and the Army Museum.

The same day, the Thai deputy PM left for Bangkok, concluding his official visit to Viet Nam from Nov. 5-8 at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Vu Khoan./.
