Viet Nam celebrates Thailand's National Day

(VNA)- A meeting was held in Ha Noi on Dec. 3 to mark the 78th Birth Day of the King of the Kingdom of Thailand, which is also the country's National Day, Dec.5.

President of the Viet Nam-Thailand Friendship Association Ta Quang Ngoc highlighted the time-tested friendship between the two peoples, who drink water of the Mekong River.

He said the two countries countries are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and share the wet rice culture.

Ngoc said his organisation would continue to be a bridge to span the two peoples and contribute to developing the Viet Nam-Thailand relationship.

The two countries have enjoyed booming economic relations since February, 2004 with bilateral trade revenues expectedly to reach 3 billion USD this year. Thailand is in the list of top ten foreign investors in Viet Nam with a total investment of 1.45 billion USD.

Thai Ambassador Krit Kraichitti also expressed satisfaction at the fine development of the two countries' relations in all fields. He reaffirmed Thailand's policy to develop ties with regional nations, including Viet Nam.

He emphasised the role played by the Vietnamese community in Thailand in developing bilateral relations./.
