Viet Nam, China to complete landmark demarcation in 2008

(VNA) - Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung stressed that Viet Nam and China will cooperate closely in order to complete the demarcation of border markers along their land boundaries by 2008.

At his reception to Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Wu Dawei, who is at the head of a Chinese delegation to the Sino-Vietnamese Government Border Negotiations, in Ha Noi on Dec. 10, Deputy PM Dung highly praised the results of Governmental negotiations on borders from Dec. 8-10.

The deputy PM said that the two negotiation delegations had strictly and effectively implemented the agreements reached by the two countries' leaders at a time when the friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries were developing fruitfully, especially after the China visit by President Tran Duc Luong and the Viet Nam visit by President Hu Jintao.

Deputy PM Dung welcomed the two delegations' agreement to prepare for negotiations on delineation of the Vinh Bac Bo (Tonkin Gulf) as well as their agreement to coordinate in implementing the Viet Nam-China-Philippines agreement on a number of sites in the East Sea.

Chinese Deputy FM Wu Dawei affirmed the important significance of the settlement of the border issue. He said due to the fine development of the two countries' relations, China was willing to cooperate with Viet Nam to develop economic and commercial relations and solve the border issue satisfactorily in the spirit of comradeship and fraternity./.
