Vietnamese school receives French Award for human rights

(VNA) - The Prime Minister of France, Dominique De Villepin, on Dec.12 presented the 2005 Award for Human Rights on a representative of a privately-run Economics and Tourism Secondary School in Ha Noi, Hoa Sua.

The annual award is given by the French National Consultative Committee on Human Rights to organizations actively engaged in projects that foster the protection and development of human rights for all people, without regard to nationality.

Addressing the award-granting ceremony, PM De Villepin praised the all-out efforts of the Vietnamese school in providing free vocational training to the country's disabled and disadvantaged children and assisting their integration into society by finding them suitable jobs.

He reiterated that the school’s work plays a critical role, supporting the national fight against hunger and poverty, reducing the number of homeless children, fostering gender equality and spurring the development of Viet Nam’s fledgling tourism sector.

Vietnamese Ambassador to France Nguyen Dinh Bin attended the ceremony./.
