Legislative chief wraps up visit to northern African countries

(VNA) - National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An arrived in Ha Noi on Dec. 25, ending his 10-day visit to the three northern African countries - Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco.

Chairman An was welcomed by leaders of the Governments, the Senates and the Houses of Representatives of those countries, who said his visit met both sides' desires to boost relations and multifaceted cooperation between the legislative and executive bodies in bilateral and multilateral frameworks.

These leaders undertook to continue reinforcing political ties and facilitate cooperation with Viet Nam in other areas.

They praised Viet Nam's role and position in the Southeast Asian region and the world. They voiced their support for Viet Nam's bid to join the World Trade Organisation and to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in the 2008-2009 term.

During his tour to the three countries, Chairman An participated in Viet Nam's economic cooperation forums with these countries and visited economic centres and historic and cultural relic sites there.

He attended the inauguration ceremony of the Vietnamese Embassy in Morocco and visited the staffs of the Vietnamese Embassies in Algeria and Morocco./.
