More than 8.1 billion VND raised for the poor

(VNA) - More than 8.1 billion VND was raised by individuals, organisations and businesses nationwide through a live TV programme on Dec. 31 for the poor.

Especially, a giant hammock of the Duy Loi company, which weighs 2.5 tonnes and is able to carry 40 people, was auctioned at 310 million VND and a ceramic cup inlayed with gold that was made by the Minh Long Porcelain Company collected 930 million VND at the programme.

The programme, the fifth of its kind so far was jointly initiated by the Fatherland Front, the Viet Nam Television (VTV) and the Military Telecom Corporation (Viettel).

Over the past five years, the Fatherland Front used the money extracted from the Fund for the Poor to build 340,000 houses for nearly 1.5 million poor families./.
