Fatherland Front asked to maintain leading role in 2006

(VNA)- The Viet Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) should take a lead in law enforcement along with contributing to poverty reduction programmes.

Tong Thi Phong, Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Commitee, said at a meeting on Jan. 8 that the VFF should actively intensify campaigns for implementing two newly-approved laws against corruption and on thrift practice, among other laws.

Mrs. Phong, who is also Head of the CPV Central Committee's Department for Mass Mobilisation, also urged the nation's largest mass organisation to pay more attention to the living conditions of people in remote and mountainous communities, especially of ethnic minority groups.

The meeting was held to collect opinions on a draft guideline for implementing the anti-corruption law and the law on thrift practice and waste combat. The meeting also discussed preparations for an upcoming congress of Central Highlands ethnic minority groups./.
