Deputy Prime Minister: good year for Viet Nam-US relations
The Deputy PM also expressed Viet Nam's desire to gain the support of the United States for its accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) while receiving in Ha Noi on January 17 Congressman Paul Gillmor, Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce's Subcommittee on Environment and Hazardous Materials, who is on an official visit to Viet Nam.
Deputy PM Khoan said Viet Nam presently pursues a policy of developing positive international relations and that it places great importance on relationship with the US.
He told his guest that Viet Nam has set a goal of maintaining stable economic growth over the next five years in the hope of escaping from the list of less developed countries by 2010.
The Vietnamese leader also said that he was delighted that the two countries are broadening their ties to different spheres, including politics, economics, science, education and military.
His view on expansion of bilateral ties was shared by Congressman Gillmor, who stressed that the two countries have made numerous endeavours to boost their relations.
At the reception, other members of Gillmor's delegation, who are from various US States, expressed their wishes to cooperate with Viet Nam in various areas.
They were interested in seeking ways to enhance the effectiveness of US businesses in Viet Nam, and opportunities to work with Vietnamese partners in agriculture and fisheries./.
