Viet Nam, Bangladesh bolster bilateral cooperation

(VNA) - The Viet Nam-Bangladesh Joint Commission on Economic, Commercial, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation held its first session in Ha Noi on Feb. 6.

The Vietnamese side was headed by Trade Minister Truong Dinh Tuyen, and the Bangladeshi side by Finance and Planning Minister Salifur Rahman.

The two sides informed each other about their respective socio-economic situation and exchanged views on cooperation plans and measures to boost bilateral relations.

The two-way trade value increased to 54 million USD in 2005 from 19.3 million USD in 2001, Minister Tuyen said.

In 2005, Viet Nam earned 22.3 million USD from shipping textiles and fibres, computers, electronics and farm produces to Bangladesh and spent 31.7 million USD on importing materials for the garment, textile and footwear industries, and urea fertilizer from Bangladesh.

The two ministers plan to sign minutes of the session on Feb. 7./.
