Spain values relationship with Viet Nam, says King

(VNA) - Spain's King Juan Carlos affirmed on Feb. 20 that he, the Spanish Government and the Spanish people consider their relations with Viet Nam to be important and will further contribute to promoting those ties.

During his meeting with Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh in Ha Noi, the King expressed his pleasure at visiting Viet Nam and thanked the Vietnamese government and people for their warm welcome and reception.

He praised Viet Nam’s achievements in the renewal process and said he was delighted at the fine development of the relationship between Spain and Viet Nam over recent years.

General Secretary Manh highlighted the visit to Viet Nam by King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, describing it as an important event in the friendly and cooperative ties between Viet Nam and Spain since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1977.

The Party leader thanked the Spanish Government and people for their assistance to Viet Nam during its national construction and development process.

He briefed the King on Viet Nam's situation, as well as its foreign policy and expressed his thanks to the King for his warm sentiments towards the country and people of Viet Nam.

He wished the King’s visit to Viet Nam success, saying he hoped it would help to further consolidate and promote the Viet Nam-Spain friendship and cooperation.

In the evening, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia were feted by President Tran Duc Luong.

The Spanish King and Queen enjoyed an artistic performance by Vietnamese and Spanish artists./.
