ADB to increase annual soft loans to Viet Nam
(VNA) - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will increase its soft loans for Viet Nam to nearly 300 million USD per year in the 2007-08 period, according to ADB Vice President Linqun Jin.
The news was delivered to Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem by the ADB official in Ha Noi on March 16, who added that Viet Nam is currently the largest recipient of ADB soft loans.
"Viet Nam will continue to make the best use of ADB's soft loans," Deputy PM Khiem stressed.
He told the banking official that Viet Nam will concentrate on developing infrastructure and that the country hopes to gain more cooperation from ADB in the field, as well as in poverty reduction and educational development.
The ADB official said his bank has designed a strategic programme to assist Viet Nam through projects to boost economic development, focusing on infrastructure facilities, such as road building and electricity generation.
Besides, ADB is supposed to develop technical assistance projects to help Viet Nam enhance its institutional capacity, improve its investment environment, and increase the quality of education, the ADB official said./.
