Pakistan seeks Viet Nam's help in relations with ASEAN
Ambassador Habib Ur Rahman told the Lao Dong (Labour) newspaper in an interview that Pakistan is pursuing an "Oriental-oriented" policy which gives Viet Nam an important position.
Viet Nam and Pakistan are enjoying fine development of friendship, which was marked with a recent exchange of high-level visits and the signing of a number of key agreements, the Pakistani diplomat confirmed.
He said Pakistan strongly supported Viet Nam in its past struggle for national independence and is continuing to do so for the Southeast Asian nation in international forums.
The ambassador however pushed for bilateral stronger economic ties, which he said remained modest despite a growth of more than five times in two-way trade revenues over the past five years to 75 million USD currently.
He said Pakistan has imported Viet Nam's green tea which has become popular in his country. He also said Pakistan wants to expand its imports from Viet Nam to pepper and dry anise flower.
Bilateral relations should include cultural cooperation, the Pakistani diplomat said. He citied an on-going work for translating the Vietnamese "Ho Chi Minh's diplomacy ideology" book into Urdu language for an early publication in Pakistan and projects to teach Urdu songs for Vietnamese singers.(VNA)
