Viet Nam's negotiations for WTO accession enters final stage

The Working Group for Viet Nam's WTO Accession in Geneva said that Viet Nam has entered the final stage of its negotiations for WTO accession, according to the National Committee for International Economic Cooperation.

The Vietnamese Government's negotiation mission, led by Deputy Trade Minister Luong Van Tu, attended the 12th session of the Working Group for Viet Nam's WTO Accession and held bilateral talks with the remaining four partners, the US, Mexico, Honduras and Dominica, in Geneva from March 20-28.

At the12th multilateral talks taking place on March 27, the working group focused on four main contents, namely reviewing the process of Viet Nam's bilateral negotiations and law building programme, the working group's draft report and its working programme in the near future.

On March 22, Viet Nam signed an agreement on the conclusion of negotiations with Canada. Regarding talks with Honduras and Dominica, these two countries have completed the remaining matters and officially declared the conclusion of their bilateral negotiations on opening markets. In negotiations with Mexico, there remain only a few matters which are expected to be resolved in a couple of weeks.

At the talks with the US, the opening of the door of goods and service markets and multilateral points have been carefully discussed and Viet Nam-US bilateral talks are likely to reach a conclusion soon.

All members of the Working Group highly valued Viet Nam's important progress in the recent past, particularly the completion of the law building programme, the conclusion of bilateral negotiations with almost all partners, and a timely provision of documents and answers to questions by the working group./.(VNA)
