Renewal achievements reflect Party's sound leadership

(VNA) - Many foreign diplomats and friends have praised the achievements of the renewal process under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam in interviews with the Nhan Dan (People) newspaper.

They also expressed their belief in the country's strong industrial development and modernisation process.

Acting resident representative of the United Nations Development  Programme (UNDP) Subinay Nandy said he hoped that newly elected leaders will continue to be inspired by the achievements of earlier generations.

UNDP in particular and the UN in general are very pleased that the issue of human development was the main focus of the discussions and documents of the 10th National Party Congress, added the UNDP official.

The Party has drawn many lessons from 20 years of renewal in combining economic development with social development for the benefits of the entire population, he noted.

Viet Nam is a leading country in terms of poverty reduction and hunger eradication, Subinay Nandy said, adding that the UN hoped other developing countries will learn from Viet Nam's achievements in the field.

He also hoped that Viet Nam's pledge to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) would be included in the National Party Congress' policies so that MDGs would be carried out successfully nationwide by 2015.

G. Leonard Pitso, Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to Viet Nam, said after 20 years of renewal process, Viet Nam have made achievements in many fields, including political stability, improvement of people's lives, external relations and the country's position in the regional and international arenas./.

The South African Ambassador added that Viet Nam and South Africa cooperation developed rapidly in the recent past. He said that South Africa wished to boost cooperation in economy, especially investment.

Meanwhile, Pamela Williams-Jones, Managing Director of the UK's ORBIS, said that Viet Nam is a peaceful country and she was impressed with the Vietnamese people's determination to build up the country.

She further said that ORBIS will continue helping vision-impaired persons in Viet Nam by granting 8 million USD for projects on eye care and blind prevention in Viet Nam in the next five years./.
