Over 1 billion USD to be invested in textile and garment projects

(VNA) - The Viet Nam Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex) plans to invest 16.1 trillion VND (over 1 billion USD) in 24 key expansion projects from 2006-2010.

According to Vinatex, these projects aim to develop material growing areas, the textile industry, production and distribution systems, fashion design and infrastructure.

Worthy of note are projects to build a 1,000 ha farm for cotton growing in the southern central region, to manufacture 140,000 tonnes of fibre per year, as well as to build new factories and relocate existing ones to industrial zones in the northern and southern deltas and the central coastal region.  

Vinatex expects to produce over 400 million sq.m of fabric, including 270 million sq.m for exports, by 2010./.
