Historical relic busy with Buddhist Grand Ceremony

(VNA) - People can feel and see the festive environment in more than 1,100 pagodas in Ha Noi's neighbour province of Ha Tay, which was known as a revolutionary and historical relic with famous Thay pagoda, where several caves still keep relics of the late President Ho Chi Minh on his stay during the anti-French war.

Locals have been joining the entire nation in celebrating the Buddha's 2630th birthday and the 2500th year of the Buddhist calendar with art performances, charitable activities, pilgrimages and Buddhist rituals. The first ever parades of flower-decorated carts from various pagodas to the provincial Cultural Centre scheduled for the coming full moon night (on May 12) will be the most expected, said Most Venerable Thich Pho Tue, Head of the provincial Sangha's Executive Board. Most Venerable Tue, who is also Deputy President of the Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha's Patronage Council, added that it is also a sign of welcoming the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation's recognition of Lord Buddha's birth anniversary as the world religious festival.

Local Buddhists' happiness this year has doubled as their living conditions in both material and spiritual lives have seen improvements, said another dignitary, Reverend Thich Dao Vinh. He referred to an increase of an annual per-capita income to 4.5 million VND on average this year and a target for an economic annual growth of at least 12 percent from 2006, of Sai Son village. The village has seven pagodas including the famous Thay pagoda.

In line with the religion's traditions, Buddhist celebrations in Ha Tay province have been dominated by charitable activities, raising over 405 million VND for the poor, the disabled and victims of Agent Orange/dioxin over the past year, said Most Venerable Thich Pho Tue./.
