National Assembly discusses socio-economic issues
Do Trong Ngoan, a deputy from Bac Giang province, highlighted the country's achievements over its 20 years of renewal, particularly the socio-economic accomplishments in the 2001-2005 period. He attributed the results to not only the entire Party's and people's efforts but also the Government's dynamic and efficient management.
Ngoan, however, cited several issues of popular concern, including increased prices of many goods, which he said makes salary increases meaningless; inefficient settlement of people's complaints; and strikes and difficult living conditions of workers at industrial zones.
Describing newly-discovered scandals, including the case at Project Management Unit 18, as urgent matters, he proposed that individuals involved in such cases be strictly punished.
In regard to management of ODA capital, Tao Huu Phung, a deputy from Ha Tay province, proposed that the Government submit a bill on ODA capital management and use to the National Assembly for approval as soon as possible so that the law may be issued soon.
Deputy Nguyen Ngoc Tran from An Giang province expressed his worry about the basis for a national financial strategy for the coming years and the utilization of public finance.
Also on May 17, many NA deputies voiced their opinions on other matters relating to personnel work, sharp distinguishment between State management and business, and production management, and the sharp increase of prices. They proposed that electricity prices in rural areas should not be increased.(VNA)
