Vietnamese, Lao Foreign Ministries hold exchange

(VNA) - Vietnamese and Lao Foreign Ministers stressed the need to further promote cooperation between units of the two ministries in the near future to meet the two sides' requirement for expanding external relations, during the fourth regular meeting of Vietnamese and Lao foreign ministries in Viet Nam's city of Da Nang from May 20-21.

At the meeting, co-chaired by Vietnamese Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien, head of the Vietnamese delegation, and Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Somsavat Lengsavat, head of the Lao delegations, the two sides reviewed the implementation of the agreement in the previous meeting in Vientiane, Laos, in April 2005.

The two FMs praised the results of the two ministries' cooperation, informed each other of their respective countries' situation, discusses, regional and international matters of common concern and discussed measures to promote cooperation. They agreed to promote bilateral cooperation and information  exchange and coordinate diplomatic activities at regional and international forums.

Lao Deputy PM and FM Somsavat Lengsavat praised the success of the 10th Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and thanked Viet Nam for its aid to Laos' external activities.

Vietnamese FM Nien highlighted the success of the 8th Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and expressed his appreciation of Laos's achievements.

The two sides agreed to convene the next meeting in Laos in 2007./.
