At a meeting with relevant departments and branches in central Da Nang city on May 23, the Deputy PM said estimate of the number of the deaths and victims still  missing should be made in order to work out a proper plan to help victims' relatives.

Deputy PM Khiem stressed that active measures should be taken to help typhoon survivors restore their normal lives and production and to award those who made outstanding contributions to the search for victims.

The Deputy PM visited fishermen who survived the typhoon and are under treatment at the Da Nang Hospital.

Also on May 23, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Thuong, President and General Secretary of the Viet Nam Red Cross sent a letter calling on members of the association, young people and volunteers nationwide to raise fund to help victims of the typhoon.

Meanwhile, agencies, services, mass organisations and localities nationwide are raising funds to help the victims.

President Tran Duc Luong, Vice President Truong My Hoa and staff in the State President's Office donated money to help fishermen and their families overcome the typhoon's aftermath and quickly resume their normal lives.

By the end of May 23, the Naval Force had raised 160 million VND and sent 1 tonne of rice to help the typhoon victims.

On the morning of May 23, the Viet Nam Coal Industry and Mineral Group donated 200 million VND. 

The trade unions of the Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) encouraged EVN workers to each contribute  one day's worth of salary to help the victims. EVN will immediately send 50 million VND through the Electricty Company 3 to its branches in Quang Ngai, Quang Nam and Da Nang to assist the typhoon victims' families.

In response to appeal of the Tam Long Vang (Gold Heart) Fund of the Lao Dong (Labour) newspaper, the trade union organisation of the Industry Ministry on May 23 sent 20 million VND to the fund to support fishermen victims in Da Nang city, and Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Khanh Hoa provinces.

The Ministry of Education and Training on May 23 also instructed the Education and Training Departments of Da Nang city and Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces and schools in these localities to take measures to help pupils and students whose are relatives of disaster victims continue attending classes and preparing for exams.

The Vietnamese Youth and Students Association in Japan on May 22 launched a drive to raise funds to support victims of Typhoon Chanchu in central provinces of the home country.

To date, Vietnamese navy forces' rescue ships have provided fuel, food and drinks for 26 fishing boats and helped them back to Da Nang, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai.

They will continue to search for and rescue other fishing vessels battered by the typhoon onshore from the Dong Sa Islands.(VNA)
