Australia grants more scholarships to Vietnamese

(VNA) - As many as 150 post-graduate Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) will be granted to Vietnamese students in 2007, said Australia's Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Mal Skelly.

The Australian diplomat made the announcement when he revealed his government's plan to double scholarships for students in Asia-Pacific region, with 19,000 scholarships worth 1.4 billion Australian dollars (over 1 billion USD) for the 2006-2010 period.

Viet Nam is one of the countries with a large number of students receiving ADS scholarships.

In the Ho Chi Minh City's programme to train 300 doctoral and master's degree candidates, 40 are studying at 11 Australian universities, accounting for 24 percent of the city's total trainees in 13 countries, said Nguyen Thi Lan, Vice Head of the city Party Committee's Organisation and Personnel Board./.
