Highlanders to access free vocational training

(VNA) - The authorities in the Central Highland province of Dak Lak plan to provide free short-term vocational training for 17,340 rural people until 2010 in a bid to change the province's production structure and improve local living standards.

Under the 26-billion VND plan, training programmes will cover a wide range of sectors, including agro-forestry and aquatic processing, agricultural machinery maintenance, veterinary, garments, electrical engineering and handicrafts.

The province has so far offered local ethnic people many free vocational training programmes, helping to increase the total percentage of trained local labourers to 20.5 percent in 2005, up from 12 percent in 2000.

As many as 3,484 ethnic minority labourers living in the province benefited from  vocational training programmes during the 2001-2005 period./.
