South African general's visit boosts bilateral defence cooperation
(VNA) - Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phung Quang Thanh, Chief of the General Staff of the Viet Nam People's Army (VPA), has described the visit to Viet Nam by Gen. Godfrey Nhlanhla Ngwenya, South African National Defence Chief, as a boost to mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries' people and armed forces.
Sen. Lieut. Gen. Thanh spoke to Gen. Ngwenya during the talks held after an official welcome ceremony at the Defence Ministry's Guest House in Ha Noi on Jun. 13.
The two sides informed each other of the socio-economic development situations and defence policies in their respective countries. They discussed VPA's experiences in generating jobs for veterans and veterans' participation in economic development and poverty reduction.
Also on June 13, Gen. Ngwenya was received by Minister of Defence Gen. Pham Van Tra.
In the evening, Sen. Lieut. Gen. Thanh hosted a banquet in honour of Gen. Ngwenya and his entourage./.
