Nguyen Minh Triet elected as State President

(VNA) - Nguyen Minh Triet, Politburo member of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City municipal Party Committee, was elected as State President on morning of June 27 during the ongoing ninth session of the 11th National Assembly in Ha Noi.

Speaking at the session, Mr. Triet promised to do his utmost to serve the nation and people, fulfill the duty of a State President stipulated by the Constitution and Law, continue implementing programmes, plans and responsible ambitions of his predecessor, former President Tran Duc Luong. He said he will share people's joys and sorrows and will strive to ease these sorrows.

President Triet said he hoped to receive support and cooperation from the National Assembly, the entire people and overseas Vietnamese community, as well as regular coordination from agencies and organsations to fulfill the noble mission assigned by the National Assembly.

In the same morning, President Triet presented a proposal recommending Nguyen Tan Dung, Politburo member of the CPV CC and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, as the next Prime Minister.

In the afternoon, NA deputies will vote on this position and announce the results of the election. The NA will also hear the new Prime Minister's proposal to relieve a number of cabinet members./.
