Party leader pledges to set up anti-corruption board

(VNA) - An anti-corruption board will be set up, presided over by a Deputy Prime Minister, said Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh.

The Party leader made the announcement on July 5 when he and the newly-elected National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and other NA deputies from Ha Noi had a meeting with voters in the Thanh Tri district on the outskirts of the capital.

At the meeting, Manh asserted determination of the Party and the whole country to intensify the fight against corruption and wastefulness. It would be a difficult struggle that would require a combined efforts by the Party and the support of the people, all organisations and the press, he said.

NA Chairman Trong meanwhile underlined the commitment to the renewal process and improved operations of the legislative body and its relevant agencies, including those responsible for drafting legislation.

Various voters submitted proposals relating to urban development, health care, education, environment, and the training and appointment of officials.

They indicated concern about the lack of information for Vietnamese businesses needing to prepare for the country's entry into the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

They also raised the issues of corruption and wastefulness, complaint settlement and administrative reforms./.
