Viet Nam appreciates UN Agencies' assistance

(VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung praised the United Nations Agencies' assistance to Viet Nam over the past years, particularly in economic development and the fight against poverty, HIV/AIDS, SARS and bird flu.

At the reception of the new UN Coordinator in Viet Nam, John Hendra, in Ha Noi on July 11, PM Dung said the Ha Noi-based offices of the UN Agencies have actively contributed to Viet Nam's efforts to promote comprehensive socio-economic development.

He welcomed Hendra in his new post and expressed hopes that the UN representative will work to fortify UN agencies' assistance to Viet Nam.

Hendra said he will try his best to help Viet Nam fulfill the UN Millennium Development Goals, reduce poverty, and fight against HIV/AIDS and bird flu while expressing his admiration at the host country's commitments to the UN./.
