Viet Nam, Cambodia to start border mark planting
The agreement was reached at a working session between Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Dung, who is also Head of the Border Department, and Cambodian Senior Minister Var Kimhong, who is President of the Border Committee, after they paid a joint field-trip to the area on August 1-2.
The two Presidents of the Joint Committees on Border Demarcation and Border Mark Planting also agreed on the planning of the area that houses Viet Nam's Moc Bai Border Gate in its southwestern province of Tay Ninh and Cambodia's Bavet Border Gate in Svay Rieng province. The planning covers the mapping of border mark positions and the timetable for the planting of the border marks.
The working session took place in an atmosphere of friendship, cooperation and mutual confidence, according to a press communique released by the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry on August 2.
The two sides described the event as a turning point in the process of border demarcation and border mark planting under the Viet Nam-Cambodia Border Delimitation Treaty signed in 1985 and a Supplementary Treaty in 2005./.
