Ha Noi tourism gets ready for APEC meetings

(VNA)- Tourism executives in Viet Nam's capital of Ha Noi confirmed of the logistic preparations underway for meetings within the framework of the APEC Leaders' Conference 2006, scheduled for later this year.

The city, which will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Conference in November, has selected 25 hotels with almost 4,300 rooms to serve the high-ranking delegations, journalists and businesses who are expected to attend the meeting and its sideline events.

All these hotels are well furnished, including satellite televisions, internet services, swimming pools, tennis courts and shopping areas.

They include five-star hotels with worldwide reputations, such as Daewoo, Sofitel Metropole, Hilton Opera, Horizon and Sheraton. These hotels also have supurb views and extensive experiences in welcoming VIPs for major international conferences.

The municipal tourism administration has also picked over 100 other hotels as substitutes, of which many bear Vietnamese names such as the Thang Loi Hotel with almost 4,000 standard rooms, to serve the meetings.
The agency will also hold training courses for some 2,000 hotel staff to improve their working skills to international standards.

To ensure food hygiene and safety, especially during the period that these meetings will take place, Ha Noi has intensified examinations over the hotel restaurants selected to serve the meetings as well as street-side restaurants and food shops throughout the city. The municipal tourism administration has also picked almost 400 restaurants specialising in European, French, Chinese and Thai cuisines as well as Vietnamese dish specialties to serve food at the APEC meetings.

Nguyen Thuy Linh from the Daewoo Hotel said her kitchen has worked out special menus to welcome APEC guests, focusing on international dishes as well as Vietnamese specialties.

South African Chef Jurgen Kauz of the Melia Hotel has presented a diverse set of menus for the week when APEC leaders will meet in Ha Noi.

High quality food suppliers also have been chosen to meet the hotel's top priority of food hygiene and safety, Kauz said.

The Ha Noi tourism administration said it has prepared a series of special tours for tourists inside and outside the city. Only the leading travel agents will be allowed to sell tour tickets at the selected hotels, the agency said.
