President hopes for stronger judicial ties with Thailand

(VNA) - President Nguyen Minh Triet expressed hopes for increased judicial cooperation between Viet Nam and Thailand as part of bilateral comprehensive ties in the interests of both people.

President Triet made the call at his reception in Ha Noi on August 15 for the Chief Judge of the High Court of Thailand, Chanchai Likhitjitta.

The President noted improved developments in the two countries' all-around ties over the recent past, and he highlighted the link between the two judicial bodies. The High Court of Thailand has helped train Vietnamese judges and justice officials.

Thailand's development model presented valuable lessons to Viet Nam, particularly in the fields of tourism and sports, Triet said.

He asked the Thai chief judge to convey his greetings to King Bhumibol Adulyadej and other Thai leaders on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic ties and the Thai King's 60th year on the throne and 80th birthday.

The President thanked the Thai government for granting legal status to overseas Vietnamese in Thailand to help them stabilise their lives and make contributions the bilateral ties.

For his part, the Thai chief judge affirmed that his visit, apart from boosting the exchange of experiences between the two judicial bodies, is also aimed at cementing the friendship between Thailand and Viet Nam./.
