Viet Nam - Tanzania cooperation unceasingly growing
The past 41 years saw a number of exchanges of high-ranking delegations between the two countries. Noteworthy was the official friendly visit to Viet Nam by Tanzanian President Benjamin W. Mkapa in December 2004.
During the visit, the two sides signed framework agreements on cooperation in economy, trade, culture, and science and technology, as well as agreed to establish a joint committee between the two governments. The move laid a foundation for economic and commercial exchanges between Viet Nam and Tanzania.
In March 2002, the two countries reached cooperative agreements on a wide range of sectors while a delegation of the Vietnamese Trade Ministry visited a number of African countries, including Tanzania. Major cooperative fields included farm produce, fruits and vegetables processing, wet rice growing, afforestation, irrigation, household cattle-breeding and exchanges of agronomists.
Additionally, the Viet Nam Trade Promotion Department and the Tanzanian Trade Promotion Association inked cooperative agreements on various areas and have created favourable conditions for businesses of the two countries to implement the accords.
Two-way trade turnover between Viet Nam and Tanzania reached over 18.5 million USD in 2005. Major Vietnamese products exported to Tanzania include garments and textiles, rubber, rice, electric accessories and computers.(VNA)
