PM calls for further Viet Nam-France economic cooperation

(VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has expressed his wish that the newly established Supreme Council for France-Viet Nam Economic Cooperation Development would further promote economic ties between the two countries.

At a reception for Jacques Oudin, co-chairman of the council, in Ha Noi on Sept. 13, PM Dung said he was pleased with the development of the two nations' relations in recent years.

The PM told Oudin and his delegation that he had a bilateral meeting with French President Jacques Chirac during the sixth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 6), at which he was informed that the council had been established to assist economic cooperation between the two countries.

He agreed to hold the first meeting of the council in France in early October and urged the two sides to determine the council's tasks and operational regulations so that it could commence its work as soon as possible.

Mr. Oudin suggested that the Vietnamese Government facilitate the council's work, in particular to encourage French businesses to invest in transport, energy, environment, banking, insurance and medicines projects in Viet Nam.

He said the two sides would sign a framework agreement in Viet Nam on Sept. 15 and promised to use his best efforts to promote economic cooperation./.
