State President meets with leaders of NAM countries

(VNA) - The Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet met on Sept. 16 with a number of his overseas counterparts during the on-going 14th Non-aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Havana.

At a meeting with Triet, South African President Thabo Mbeki suggested that South Africa and Viet Nam further develop their own relations, as well as contribute to promoting Asian-African relations in general. He confirmed that he would soon make an official visit to Viet Nam.

Viet Nam provided an example to other nations through its struggle for national independence, as well as its national construction and economic programmes, according to Mozambican President Armando Emilio Guebuza, speaking at a meeting with President Triet.

President Guebuza said that poverty was currently the greatest challenge facing Mozambique, and he hoped that this summit would help provide solutions to help improve the living conditions of the Mozambican people.

At a meeting with the Vietnamese President, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono extended his thanks to the Vietnamese government and people for their generous support given to victims of the 2004 tsunami and said he hoped that relations between Indonesia and Viet Nam would continue to develop, particularly in the fields of economy and trade.

President Triet also met with the President of the Presidium of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Supreme People's Assembly Kim Yong Nam, and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias./.
