French daily hails Viet Nam's economic development

The French daily "The Echo" in its Sept. 20 issue carried out an article entitled "Awakening Viet Nam Dragon", praising the spectacular economic development of Viet Nam in past years.

The paper said that Viet Nam has become one the most attractive destinations for international investors, particularly those from Japan , the US and the European Union (EU).

The paper described what is currently happening in Viet Nam as resembling the legendary story about Ha Long Bay, one of Viet Nam's landscapes listed by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as a World Heritage.

Viet Nam has not only recorded great achievements during its renewal (Doi Moi) process but also maintained national stability. Viet Nam , over the past 10 years, has attained an annual average economic growth rate of more than 7 percent, reaching 8.4 percent in 2005. Viet Nam has now about 20,000 small- and medium-sized enterprises compared to only a few thousand in 2000. In 2005, total foreign investment in Viet Nam reached nearly 5 billion USD, the paper said.

Viet Nam is proactively preparing to host the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Ha Noi in mid-November. The country is also on the verge of joining the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the Echo added.

The paper attributed Viet Nam's great success to its political stability, the sound policies of the Party, State and Government of Viet Nam as well as patriotism of the Vietnamese people.(VNA)
