PM calls for good preparations for APEC Week

(VNA) - Preparations for the 2006 APEC Week must be made in a way that will help improve Viet Nam's prestige in the international arena, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung while chairing a meeting on Sept. 23 to prepare for the event.

Deputy PM Pham Gia Khiem, Head of the National Steering Committee for APEC 2006 and former deputy PM Vu Khoan, PM's special envoy for APEC attended the meeting.

PM Dung stressed that the APEC economic leaders meeting should be organised in a way that demonstrated respect, friendship, and safety but not showing extravagance. The 2006 APEC Week in Ha Noi from Nov. 12-19 must promote a good image about Viet Nam and its people and show their friendliness and hospitality, he said.

After hearing reports on preparations for the APEC economic leaders conference by the 2006 APEC Secretariat and subcommittees for APEC 2006, PM Dung asked all agencies to give careful thought to their preparations based on the master plan and to hold rehearsals to ensure the success./.
