Foreign Ministry's opinion on Russian verdict in student murder case
The verdict could negatively impact the feelings between the two peoples, seen as a valuable asset, the diplomatic note said.
Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Phu Binh met with Russian Ambassador Vadim V. Serafimov in Ha Noi and conveyed the note to him.
The Vietnamese public and Russian people were deeply moved by the brutal killing of 20-year-old Tuan who was studying in Russia, because Russia has long been considered as a peaceful country, and the Russians as a kind-hearted people with fine sentiments for the Vietnamese people, said the diplomatic note.
Before and during the trial, Viet Nam persistently asked Russia to identify and bring the murderers to justice so as to lessen the suffering of Tuan's family and the Vietnamese people.
The Foreign Ministry expressed its deep concern over the murder case, asking the Russian side to take measures to quickly investigate and determine the identity of Tuan's murderer.
Ambassador Serafimov told Deputy FM Binh that the investigation into the death of Tuan was not yet over.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has sent a message to the Supreme Procuracy, the Supreme Court and the Interior Ministry informing them of Viet Nam's opinion, the Russian diplomat said.
He pledged to forward the diplomatic note to Russia immedately and ask relevant authorities to bring to court quickly the persons responsible for Tuan's death (VNA).
