NA Vice Chairman meets British Deputy leader of the House of Commons

(VNA) - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Van Yeu hailed the visit by Deputy Leader of the British House of Commons, Nigel Griffiths, as a contribution in promoting mutual understanding between the law-making bodies of Viet Nam and Britain.

While meeting the British MP in Ha Noi on Oct. 30, the Vietnamese NA Vice Chairman expressed his hope that the two legislative bodies will increase their sharing of experiences on making laws.

On Britain's development aid for Viet Nam, the Vietnamese NA leader affirmed the aid had been used effectively.

The Deputy Leader of the House of Commons told his host that he was impressed with the hard-working spirit of Viet Nam's on-going legislature and wanted to get to know more about the Vietnamese NA's organisation, operation and role in the country's socio-economic development, especially agricultural development.

The same day, Nigel Griffiths talked with Vietnamese NA deputies on the role played by legislature in the political system as well as the role of MPs in protecting the rights of voters and executing the rights in making laws.

The same day, the British guest was received by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung. The host expressed hope that his guest will work to create changes favourable for investment cooperation and trade activities between the two countries in the near future.

Deputy PM Hung spoke of the areas that Vietnamese businesses want the UK to invest in, such as the transfer of high technologies, tertiary training, construction of hospitals, shipbuilding yards and food processing.

The deputy leader of the House of Commons asked the Vietnamese Government to continue supporting British investors doing business in Viet Nam.

He said British entrepreneurs are interested in insurance, the exploration of oil and gas and bauxite, and the manufacturing of plane engines.

While staying in Viet Nam from Oct. 29 to Nov. 3, the British MP will work with representatives of the State Bank of Viet Nam, the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the NA's Economic and Budgetary Committee. He will also talk with students of the International Relations Institute and visit Ho Chi Minh City and the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau./.
