Ha Noi steps up efforts to attract foreign investment

(VNA) - Ha Noi has mapped out a plan to attract about 200 foreign-invested projects with a total capital of 1.5 billion USD in 2007, said Trieu Dinh Phuc, Director of the city's Department of Planning and Investment.

According to Phuc, the capital city this year will prioritise FDI projects in electronic, information technology, electricity appliance manufacturing, mechanical engineering, construction material production, garment, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and food processing industries.

A master plan for encouraging foreign investment will come out hand-in-hand with a socio-economic information system and database for the city, and "one-stop" mechanism, he added.

Ha Noi will accelerate its maintenance of social and technical infrastructure, roads, urban areas and industrial zones. It will also set up an investment promotion centre and intensify programmes on trade and tourism promotion.

Last year, Ha Noi achieved satisfactory results, both in quantity and quality, of foreign invested projects. It attracted 1.12 billion USD of FDI capital, including nearly 610 million USD for 148 new projects and 510 million USD as added capital for operating projects.

Thus, the foreign investment sector provided 15 percent of the total investment capital, 16 percent of GDP, 38 percent of export turnover, 10 percent of budget remittances and 60,000 new jobs for the whole city./.
