President Triet affirmed that Viet Nam has consistently followed a policy of multilateralisation and diversification of its international relations, and attaching importance to the fortification and the development of relations with traditional friends in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

The President also spoke highly of Mozambique's active role in the Non-Aligned Movement as well as its efforts towards peace and stability in the region, the reinforcement and development of the African Union, and the implementation of the initiative "New Partnership for Africa's Development" (NEPAD).

Mozambique President Guebuza congratulated Viet Nam for its successful organisation of the tenth Party congress and the full membership of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) as well as its nomination as the single Asian candidate to the position of non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

He expressed his admiration for the Vietnamese people's heroic struggle for national independence as well as achievements in the national reform and development at present.

The Mozambique leader said he hopes to further the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Viet Nam, particularly in economy, trade, education, health care and agriculture.

The two leaders agreed to urge the governments, ministries and sectors of the two countries to take concrete measures to boost the bilateral cooperation in agriculture, health care, education and other fields in order to meet the needs and interests of the two peoples.

They also exchanged views on several international and regional issues of common concern and agreed to intensify the mutual coordination at international and regional forums where both countries are members.

President Guebuza invited President Triet to visit his country. President Triet accepted it with pleasure.

The same day, President Triet and his wife held a banquet in honour to the Mozambique President, his wife and his entourage, who will stay for a Viet Nam visit from Jan. 16-20 (VNA).
