Viet Nam, Pakistan sign agreement on visa exemption

Viet Nam and Pakistan signed on Jan. 31 in Ha Noi an agreement on visa exemption for diplomat and official passport holders of the two countries.

The signing was made during talks between Vietnamese Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Le Cong Phung and Pakistani Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Akhtar Tufail, who began his two-day working visit to Viet Nam the same day.

The Pakistani Deputy FM was also received by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem.

During talks and reception, the two sides expressed their pleasures to the good development of the friendship and cooperation relations between the two countries in the last recent years, especially after the Pakistan visit by President Tran Duc Luong in March 2004.

Economic and trade ties between Viet Nam and Pakistan saw remarkable growth with two-way trade turnover in 2006 making year-on-year increase of 36 percent to 100 million USD.

The two sides agreed to urge ministries, sectors and enterprises to work out practical measures to raise their trade turnover in the coming years, so that they match their potential.

In 2007, the two sides agreed to hold activities to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. Celebrations will include the second meeting of the Viet Nam-Pakistan Joint Commission and the first political consultative conference between the two foreign ministries.-VNA.
