Overseas Vietnamese to be exempted from visa procedures
Efforts are also under way to make it easier for Viet Kieus to buy houses in Viet Nam, Binh said.
The Foreign Ministry is collecting comments on the second draft of an inter-ministerial circular to direct the implementation of the Housing Law, which took effect as from July 1, 2006, to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese people residing in other countries to own a house in their homeland.
The Housing Law stipulates that overseas Vietnamese eligible to buy a house in Viet Nam include people making long-term investment in the country, those who made meritorious contributions to the nation, and cultural workers, scientists and experts who are involved in regular activities in Viet Nam. Overseas Vietnamese who are allowed to re-settle in Viet Nam or have resided in the country legally for at least 6 months will also be eligible.
Visa exemption and house purchase are two issues of great concern for Viet Kieus.
In addition, the issue of two or more nationalities for overseas Vietnamese will be considered this year.
According to Deputy Minister of Justice Dinh Trung Tung, his ministry will prepare for an adjustment and supplement of the Law on Nationality this year. Comprehensive revisions are expected for regulations on holding two nationalities, administrative procedures in nationality granting and attesting, and the coordination between authorised agencies in authenticating nationality./.
