State President reaffirms efforts in attracting foreign investment

(VNA) - Viet Nam is making every effort to improve its investment environment, increase administrative reforms and standardise legal documents in a bid to attract more foreign investors, said State President Nguyen Minh Triet.

President Triet was speaking at a meeting in Ha Noi on Mar. 21 with a delegation of the Asia-Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce (APCAC) headed by its Chairman Landis W. Hicks, who is in the country to attend the 40th APCAC Annual Meeting hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Viet Nam (AmCham Viet Nam).

President Triet told the US guests that relevant agencies in Viet Nam would strive their best to shorten the licensing process for foreign-invested projects, which is in line with the country’s policy of encouraging foreign investment and creating favourable conditions for foreign investors in Viet Nam.

The organisation of an a nnual meeting of APCAC in Viet Nam is another good sign confirming the nation’s prestige in the world, said the president, adding that Viet Nam advocates "closing the past, looking towards the future" in its relations with the US in order to turn bilateral relations to a new page.

At the meeting, Chairman Hicks and APCAC delegates praised Viet Nam’s achievements over the last year, which they said are laying the foundation for the country’s sustainable development in the coming years.

The APCAC chairman affirmed that his organisation is ready to offer Viet Nam more assistance in the near future, particularly in infrastructure projects and in the implementation of the country’s WTO commitments.

The Asia-Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce consists of 25 member AmChams in 19 countries and economies, representing the growing interests of over 50,000 executives and over 10,000 businesses in the Asia-Pacific region.

The APCAC membership manages trade volumes in excess of 400 billion USD and direct investments (FDI) of nearly 300 billion USD./.
