Viet Nam backs Russia's WTO entry

(VNA) - Viet Nam supports the Federation of Russia's bid to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and will not require bilateral negotiations, a Foreign Ministry's spokesman said on April 5.

At the ministry's regular press briefing, spokesman Le Dung reported that a delegation from the Russian Trade Ministry visited Viet Nam from April 1-3.

The Russian officials discussed with their Vietnamese counterparts several existing issues in the two countries' trade and economic ties, particularly tariff and non-tariff barriers that have hindered Vietnamese businesses' access to the Russian market.

The meeting yielded positive results, basically meeting both sides' expectations, the spokesman said, adding that the two sides also pledged to address several remaining technical problems in order to reach an overall agreement as soon as possible.

" Viet Nam hopes to increase economic and trade cooperation with Russia as part of their traditional friendship and strategic partnership," Dung concluded./.
