NA chairman urges Ha Noi, Vientiane to foster cooperation
Visiting National Assembly (NA) Chairman, Nguyen Phu Trong, made the remark at a meeting with the governor of Vientiane, Sinlavong Khutphaythun, in Vientiane on April 24.
Chairman Trong went on to say that the two capitals should also diversify forms of cooperation towards the 450th founding anniversary of Vientiane and the 1000th founding anniversary of Ha Noi.
With their leading roles, Ha Noi and Vientiane must contribute to fostering the special solidarity, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Viet Nam and Laos, he added.
For his part, the Vientiane governor said he hoped that the Vietnamese NA would create more attractive conditions to accelerate the cooperative ties and friendship between Vientiane and the localities of Viet Nam, particularly Ha Noi.
Earlier the same day, Chairman Trong called on the Lao National Political-Administrative Academy as part of his official visit to Laos.
He gave a lecture to some 500 officials and students of the academy on the significance of the socialist construction in Viet Nam and what needed to be done to fulfil this task. Lao NA Chairman Thongsing Thamavong, was among the attendees at the lecture.
Chairman Trong, and his wife and entourage, laid wreaths at the Unknown Revolutionary Martyrs' Statue and visited the Caysone Phomvihan museum and a site commemorating late Lao president Suphanuvong.
On the same day, the top legislator met with representatives from the Vietnamese Embassy and Vietnamese nationals in Laos. He urged the Vietnamese community to continue supporting each other and contributing to the development of areas where they live.
On this occasion, Chairman Trong presented the Vientiane-based Overseas Vietnamese Association with 4,000 USD in support of the construction of schools for overseas Vietnamese pupils in Vientiane./.
