Belgium's Flanders region lifts cooperation with Viet Nam

An economic mission from the Flanders region of Belgium has achieved important agreements with the Vietnamese side to increase cooperation in trade and scientific research.

Fientje Moerman, Vice Minister President of the Flemish Government and Flemish Minister for Economy, Enterprises, Science, Innovation and Foreign Trade told the Viet Nam News Agency that the visit of her delegation was a success, citing an agreement the mission signed with the Ministry of Science and Technology on scientific cooperation.

Accordingly, Viet Nam and Flanders agreed to share their reciprocal knowledge in science and technology over the 2008-2010 period. In the coming years, the exchange of scientific knowledge will focus on new materials, aquaculture, information and communication technology and tropical medicine.

This is an expansion of the decade-long cooperation between the two sides in the area of education, which has seen Vietnamese students studying at Flemish universities, said Moerman.

She added that scientific cooperation would serve as a foundation to boost economic ties between Flanders and Viet Nam.

According to Moerman, over 20 enterprises from Flanders are operating in Dinh Vu industrial zone northern port city of Hai Phong.

Her delegation also opened an economic and trade office in Ho Chi Minh City to facilitate Flanders' businesses access to the Vietnamese market.

The Flemish Government’s Vice Minister President said she held a working session with the Ministry of Planning and Investment on several major projects, which she hoped would start in the near future. (VNA)
