EWEC members to meet for increased investment

Representatives from Myanmar , Thailand , Laos and Viet Nam - members of the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) - will gather in central Da Nang city for an event aimed at generating great investments into the region.

The event will take place from August 27 to September 1 and is being sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Da Nang People's Committee.

Highlights of the EWEC Week includes a forum to promote investment, trade and tourism in the region, an EWEC trade fair, and a caravan tour along EWEC countries along with cultural performances and sport friendship activities.

It will see the attendance of EWEC ministerial-level officials, heads of localities located on EWEC, representatives of EWEC embassies in Ha Noi, together with representatives from the Asian Development Bank, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Japan External Trade Organisation, the chambers of commerce of the EU, the US and France, investors and private businesses.

The 1,450-km EWEC is one of the pillars of the Mekong river region's development cooperation framework and was created to facilitate cross-border investment, trade and tourist activities of the localities it runs through.

Myanmar 's Mawlamyline and Myawaddy provinces, the Thai provinces of Mae Sot, Tak, Phisanulok, Khon Kaen, Kalansin, Kuchinarai and Mukdahan, Laos ' Savanakhet, and the Vietnamese central provinces of Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue, and Da Nang city are all connected to the EWEC.- VNA -
