Viet Nam pledges help to Iraqi reconstruction
Vietnamese Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Hoang Chi Trung noted that Viet Nam highly appreciated the regional and international undertakings in assisting the Iraqi government and people to overcome their enormous challenges in order to restore security and stability to their homeland and to rebuild their country.
The Vietnamese diplomat took the occasion to hail “the official launch of the International Compact with Iraq in Sharm el-Sheikh on May 3rd, 2007” and expressed his hope that “the Compact will serve as a strong catalyst for further cooperation to reach the outcomes which we all expect”.
He expressed his belief that the Iraqis will do their utmost to overcome their differences and work hard together, and Iraq will soon be able to stand on a firmer footing.
“Viet Nam wishes to further encourage the world community, the UN agencies in particular, to continue to help the Iraqi people in their concerted efforts of national reconciliation and reconstruction,” said the Vietnamese diplomat.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Secretary General Ashe Rose Migro, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh and representatives of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission, the Federation of Arab Emirates, the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and representatives from 100 nations.-(VNA)
