12th NA term proposed to be shortened

The National Assembly Standing Committee proposed on July 31 that the NA consider shortening the 12th NA term by one year, ending its term in July 2011 rather than July 2012.

The proposal was made in consideration of the time gap between the timing of NA election, People’s Council elections and the National Party Congress.

The shortening of the 12th NA’s term and the extension of People’s Council term by 2 years to July 2011 will enable the NA and People’s Council elections to take place at the same time in May 2011, thus saving time, funding and labour while ensuring the continuity of key positions in the state apparatus.

Also in the morning session, Nguyen Van Thuan, Chairman of the NA’s Law Committee, on behalf of the NA Standing Committee, submitted to the NA proposals on adjusting its law-making programme in 2007.

The NA Standing Committee requested that the NA add to the programme a draft law on amending and supplementing some articles of the Law on Corruption Prevention and Control and a draft ordinance on amending and supplementing some articles of the Ordinance on Execution of Imprisonment Sentence.

The NA approved a resolution on the Government’s organisation and structure, with five deputy prime ministers, 22 ministries and ministerial-level agencies as proposed by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. (VNA)
