Businesses join hands for electricity production in Laos
The Viet Nam-Laos Power Joint Stock Company (VLCP), which is aimed at building hydroelectricity plants in Laos, has made its debut recently in Ha Noi with a charter capital of 5.3 trillion VND (more than 330 million USD).
Its key shareholders include the Song Da Corporation, holding up to 49 percent of the capital, the Viet Nam Oil and Gas Group (10 percent), the Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (11 percent) and the PetroVietnam Financial Company (11 percent).
The VLPC plans to spend to the tune of 2.8 billion USD on building hydroelectricity plants in Laos with a total capacity of more than 2,200 MW from now until 2010. These plants are expected to export around 10 billion kWh of electricity for Viet Nam.
Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) have been signed for the construction of the 380 USD Sekaman 1 hydroelectricity complex, the 273 million USD Sekaman 3 and the 94 million USD Sekaman 4.-(VNA)
