Shanghai Air sees passengers soar on Viet Nam route
Shanghai Airlines, the only Chinese carrier operating direct flights from Shanghai to Ho Chi Minh City, has reported significantly high growth rates in passenger transport on its Viet Nam service.
During the celebration of its five-year Shanghai-HCM City service on Aug. 8, the airline said the number of Chinese passengers flying them to Viet Nam in the first seven months of this year rose by 125 percent compared with the same period last year.
The number of passengers using the carrier’s Viet Nam service in 2006 increased by 24 percent over 2005 while the figure for the first seven months of this year rose by 22 percent compared with the same period last year.
In addition to passenger services, the airline is operating five weekly flights transporting cargo on the Shanghai-HCM City-Bangkok route, carrying some 35 tonnes of cargo per flight.
The airline operates a daily flight between Ho Chi Minh City and Shanghai.- (VNA)
