Vietnam makes strides in e-government
Vietnam has made strides in applying information technology in government agencies and providing citizens with e-government services, rising from 126th place in 2006 to 90th in 2007.
According to the Ministry of Communications, the results of global e-government come from a recent survey conducted by a group of researchers from Brown University in the US. The group conducted a survey on 1,687 websites of government agencies from 198 countries and territories around the world.
Among ten ASEAN countries, Vietnam ranks fifth after Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Cambodia in providing e-government services. According to statistics, as many as 89 percent of the websites of government agencies in Vietnam are publicized and 100 percent of websites are provided with a database while the world figures are 96 percent and 80 percent respectively.
Thirty-three percent of the websites of Vietnam’s government agencies have special forms to help disabled people to access them while the figure is 23 percent in the rest of the world. As many as 100 percent of websites in Vietnam have interface in foreign languages while the world figure is only 62 percent.
However, Vietnam has no websites with confidentiality and security policies (zero percent) while the world figures are 23 percent and 21 percent respectively. (VOV)
